MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A former Martinsburg attorney accused of overbilling the West Virginia Public Defender Service has pleaded guilty to fraud charges.
Heidi Janelle Silver Myers pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to aiding and abetting mail and wire fraud.
The charges stemmed from an investigation by the West Virginia Commission on Special Investigations. Myers was accused of overbilling for cases in which she was in a court-appointed attorney.
Myers faces up to 20 years in prison on each charge. A sentencing date hasn't been set.
The state Supreme Court annulled Myers' law license in 2008 after she was convicted of criminal contempt for ignoring a federal grand jury subpoena.
